ZAGREB, Feb 13 (Hina) - After accounts of undeclared genetically
modified organisms (GMOs) in food products which an Osijek laboratory
detected while analysing some food items which are on sale in Croatia,
some political parties said they were outraged by this information.#L#
The Croatian Peasant Party (HSS) calls on the Health Ministry, which
includes health and sanitation departments and the Public Health
Institute, to immediately check all the food items on the market,
particularly imported products.
If some products contain GMOs, this must be clearly declared, and the
HSS calls on citizens to boycott such products.
The Croatian True Revival party (HIP) joined in the condemnation of
the failure to declare GMOs in food items, and urged that any
violation of laws must be punished and the names of the producers of
the questionable food made public.
The Green Action warns that the Osijek laboratory's detection of
undeclared GMOs in food was only an indication of the fact that
Croatia only recently started checking food items rather than of
speculation that such products might not have been present on the
market until now.
