ZAGREB, Feb 12 (Hina) - Jerko Zovak and Zdravko Tomac, former members
of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), on Thursday presented a draft
document on the establishment of the Croatian Social-Democrats (HSD),
a new left party, to be formed by May 1.#L#
Zovak and Tomac said they were forming the new party because the three
existing left parties - the SDP, the Action of Social-Democrats, and
the Socialist Labour Party - had failed to realise the main idea of
social democracy - the fight for workers' rights and against
globalisation and exploitive capitalism, and preserving the awareness
of one's nationality.
Speaking at the presentation of the new party in Zagreb were also
independent experts, political scientist Andjelko Milardovic and
economist Branimir Lokin, who said that the party's program, which was
based on the rehabilitation of the idea of national social democracy
with emphasis on labour, should have its place on the Croatian
political scene.
