party, Gianfranco Fini. #L#
"The post-war period is really over in Italy and I believe that there
are few of those suffering from nostalgia, on both sides, who
stubbornly want to keep the walls of intolerance and hatred," Fini
said.
Fini was speaking in Padua at a commemoration for the victims of
foibas, the karst pits where many innocent victims had ended up, and
for Italian refugees who had to flee areas which under the peace
agreement signed in Paris on 10 February 1947 belonged to Yugoslavia.
"Today Europe has embarked on a new phase and Italians must remember
the recent history, which does not belong to any party but is a joint
history. Certainly, that memory must respect the historical truth and
enable young people to learn from the numerous negative and tragic
pages of the recent history to prevent those events from recurring,"
Fini said.
