Earlier in the day, three trade unions of workers in the defence
ministry and the armed forces threatened to withdraw their
representatives from the process of reorganisation of the Ministry and
discontinue social dialogue unless the Ministry withdrew a decree
revoking a decision on a 15 percent wage increase for employees in the
military.
Minister Roncevic said that by withdrawing their representatives from
councils in charge of overhauling the defence sectors they would not
halt the ongoing process.
After the downsizing of the defence sector, a financially more
demanding part of the re-organisation will ensue, namely the Croatian
army is to be equipped in line with NATO standards, the minister
explained during his visit to the third Croatian contingent that will
soon depart for Afghanistan.
Roncevic added that the entire process would depend on the financial
possibilities of the state,
