ZAGREB, Jan 21(Hina) - The history department of Matica Hrvatska, the
oldest cultural institution in Croatia, on Wednesday presented the
second, expanded edition of Hrvoje Matkovic's "History of Yugoslavia",
which was published by "Josip Pavicic".#L#
The book is the first complete history of Yugoslavia to be published
in independent Croatia.
Historian Franko Mirosevic said at the presentation Matkovic had
analysed the genesis of ideas which had clashed during the seven
decades of Yugoslavia's existence and had also been incorporated in
political parties' platforms. Without understanding those ideas there
can be no understanding of Croatia's role in the creation, development
and disintegration of Yugoslavia, he said.
Mirosevic commended the exhaustive portraits of Josip Broz Tito and
King Aleksandar Karadjordjevic, whom he considers "fateful figures in
recent Croatian history".
