ZAGREB, Jan 28(Hina) - The expert opinion on the condition of General Tihomir Blaskic, who is serving a prison sentence in The Hague, will be completed by the end of the week, Zagreb Clinic Hospital deputy manager Rajko Ostojic, who
took over Blaskic's medical documentation from Dutch doctors yesterday, said on Wednesday.
ZAGREB, Jan 28(Hina) - The expert opinion on the condition of General
Tihomir Blaskic, who is serving a prison sentence in The Hague, will
be completed by the end of the week, Zagreb Clinic Hospital deputy
manager Rajko Ostojic, who took over Blaskic's medical documentation
from Dutch doctors yesterday, said on Wednesday.#L#
Blaskic's attorney Anto Nobilo had suggested to his client to ask for
a second opinion after his health problems had not been eliminated
even after one year of treatment.
The former commander of the Central Bosnian Operations Zone, Blaskic
has been in the Hague war crimes tribunal's custody for eight years.
His health started deteriorating a year ago, when he experienced
gastrointestinal bleeding, anemia and general weakness. At his last
appearance in court, in December, he was visibly pale.
Blaskic was sentenced to 45 years' imprisonment on command
responsibility for crimes committed against Central Bosnia's Muslim
population during the Bosnian war. He has appealed the sentence. The
Appeals Chamber is expected to rule soon.
The Hague tribunal has requested that Blaskic's medical documentation
remain confidential.
