ZAGREB, Jan 23(Hina) - Croatian Deputy Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor
met the head of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in
Europe Mission to Croatia, Peter Semneby, to discuss freedom of the
media and media legislation, the government's Public Relations Office
said in a statement.#L#
Kosor said the government was willing to consult the public in drawing
up new legislative frameworks for the media, notably the Law on
Croatian Radio and Television (HRT). Amending the existing law would
not constitute encroaching upon the HRT's freedom of activity on the
government's part but a wish to make the HRT a completely public
medium, she said, adding that the government fully supported freedom
of the media.
Ambassador Semneby said the OSCE Mission attached great importance to
freedom of the media, notably the independence of governing bodies in
electronic media. He added the Mission was willing to help in the
amendment of media laws so that they could be fully adjusted to
European standards.
