OPATIJA, Jan 23(Hina) - The northern Adriatic resort of Opatija is the
host of a two-day round-table debate on the promotion of cooperation
between the media and the judiciary organised by the Dutch and
Croatian Helsinki committees for human rights.#L#
The Dutch ambassador to Croatia, Lionel Strenghrart Veer, spoke about
the importance of the openness of the judicial sector to the public.
The ambassador said that his country was one of the biggest European
donors to Croatia, and added that contrary to some opinions, the
Netherlands did not stand in the way of Croatia's European
integration. He said that through its experience, the Netherlands
would help Zagreb in bids to come closer to the European Union.
At the start of the debate on Friday, Croatian reporters, judges and
state prosecutors were acquainted with the Dutch model of
communication between judicial bodies and reporters who cover the
judiciary.
