ZAGREB, Jan 12 (Hina) - There were 329,799 unemployed persons in Croatia in 2003, which is 59,942 or 15.4 percent less than in 2002, the Croatian Employment Bureau (HZZ) said on Monday.

Croatia in 2003, which is 59,942 or 15.4 percent less than in 2002,
the Croatian Employment Bureau (HZZ) said on Monday.#L#
The number of unemployed persons dropped by 318,684 in late December,
which is by 0.5 percent more than in November and by 13 percent less
than in December 2002.
Bureau head Sanja Crnkovic Pozaic said at a news conference 2002 was a
crucial year in light of the drop in unemployment given that
unemployment had constantly increased in five previous years.
There were 28,557 new jobs more than the lost ones in 2003, which is
an increase compared to the year before, when there were 21,756 more
new jobs than lost ones.
The average annual unemployment rate decreased in all counties. The
highest decrease in unemployment was registered in Istria County
(35.9 percent) and the lowest in Virovitica-Podravina County (6.5
percent).
The share of women in the unemployment structure in 2003 rose from
54.6 to 57.5 percent.
The least employable persons are those above the age of 40 and persons
with poor education.
