The reduction of the current 22-percent rate of the VAT to 20 percent
may cost some 3.5 billion kuna of the government's annual budget. The
Sanader cabinet should decide on the date when the new VAT law should
go into force. It will take effect on 1 January 2005 at the latest,
after the completion of all necessary preparations for this move.
The government is also expected also to consider the revocation of the
compulsory work order for doctors which was imposed on them after they
went on strike months ago.
The first session of the new government, that won a vote of confidence
in the Croatian parliament on 23 December, will be held on Monday.
However, the Sanader cabinet will convene on Thursdays, as it has so
far been practice of previous governments. The exception is made for
tomorrow because of PM Sanader's busy schedule and planned trips
abroad.
