Speaking after a reception he gave for Croatian Football Federation (HNS) officials, Mesic said Croatia and Hungary should host the championship because one country is already an EU member state and the other is on the path to membership.
"We will ask all our ambassadors in Europe to lobby and inform all ambassadors accredited in Zagreb of the joint candidacy," Mesic said.
HNS president Vlatko Markovic expressed satisfaction with the fact that President Mesic and Prime Minister Ivo Sanader fully supported the candidacy,
The European Football Federation (UEFA) will decide which countries will host the 2012 championship in December 2006. The other joint candidacy has been submitted by Poland, Ukraine and Italy.
