Upon exhumation, the remains were transferred to the Forensic Medicine Institute in Zagreb, where they remained until the end of 2002, after which they were buried at Mirogoj, committee representatives said.
Committee member Zdravko Ivkovic said it had been impossible to identify the victims, apart from their age and gender, and that children were among them. He added the victims had been members of what he called the 1941-45 Croatian national army and civilians from Bjelovar County.
Their remains will temporarily be placed at the chapel at Bjelovar's St. Andrew cemetery. A crypt with a monument in Lug will be completed in June.
Ivkovic said there were other Croatian WW2 and post-WW2 victims in Bjelovar County and that many burial sites were being examined.
