Commenting on the case of General Miroslav Stojanovski, PM Sanader said in Zagreb on Tuesday that the truth should be an absolute priority and above everything else.
"Let the Office of the State Prosecutor investigate all relevant facts regarding General Stojanovski's activities in Vukovar in 1991," Sanader told reporters after the CEFTA meeting.
The Office of the Vukovar County Prosecutor has launched an investigation into reports published in the Croatian media alleging that in 1991, when he was an officer of the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA), Stojanovski was involved in the atrocities committed by the JNA in the eastern Croatian town of Vukovar.
Croatian war veterans say that Stojanovski was commander of JNA military police units which perpetrated war crimes against Croatian civilians and soldiers in Vukovar.
Sanader and Buckovski said today that they could not and would not interfere in the work of the judiciary and that they would like to see the results of the investigation as soon as possible.
The two premiers also said the case should not harm the good relations between Zagreb and Skopje.
The Stojanovski case came into the limelight when Stojanovski recently visited Croatia in his capacity as the Macedonian army's chief of staff, with the visit coinciding with commemorations marking the 14th anniversary of the fall of Vukovar into the hands of the JNA.
On Tuesday afternoon, local prosecutors in Vukovar interviewed people believed to have information about Stojanovski's role in the siege of the town.
