Commenting on the current dispute over the Peljesac bridge, Ivanic said he hoped that teams of experts from both countries would arrive at a mutually acceptable solution and that there would be no need for diplomatic action.
"Should that not be the case, we will seek international arbitration to protect the interests of Bosnia-Herzegovina," the foreign minister said.
Safet Halilovic, minister for civil affairs and head of the Party for Bosnia-Herzegovina, is also opposed to the construction of a bridge that would close access for ships travelling to and from Neum.
Halilovic said that there were indications that the construction of the bridge would be in violation of the principles of international law, citing the Convention on the Law of the Sea.
"In my opinion, Bosnia-Herzegovina should be more aggressive than it is in defending its interests," Halilovic said, adding that he had personally launched an initiative with the government to take the necessary steps to protect the country's interests.
He also said that the Presidency of Bosnia-Herzegovina and representatives of the international community in the country should also take appropriate steps in this case.
