The statement said that the incident occurred at 1630 hours on Saturday when Father Boris Milinkovic was in the church. Milinkovic called the police, who arrived ten minutes later when the attackers had escaped.
"Since attacks on Orthodox Serbs, their cultural monuments and Serb Orthodox Church buildings have become frequent as of late, the Serb community in Dalmatia expects appropriate protection from institutions of the Republic of Croatia, which should enable and guarantee a safe life and work for the Serbs in the region in accordance with European standards and laws," the statement said.
Sibenik Police Department spokeswoman Rosanda Truta said that the police had carried out an on-site investigation and would issue a statement about the attack on Sunday.
