The two heads of state met in the town near the border with Austria on the occasion of the Days of Croats, an event staged by the Croat minority in Hungary.
President Solym said that members of national minorities enjoyed the same rights as other citizens of the countries they lived in and that they were part of the culture of their mother country.
President Mesic said that Croatia and Hungary protected the rights of their national minorities in the best possible way.
"The Croats in Hungary participate in the country's political, economic and cultural life and the same goes for the Hungarians living in Croatia," Mesic said.
The two leaders also discussed the possibility for the Croat minority to have a representative in the Hungarian parliament, which Solym said was an understandable request.
He added, however, that it required changes to the Hungarian constitution and that legislative solutions already existed enabling minorities to exercise their rights.
The two presidents also discussed Croatia's admission to the EU and the improvement of the transport infrastructure linking the two countries.
Solym said that Hungary was glad to receive the news of the launching of Croatia's EU entry talks.
"Our countries share the same destiny in the EU and we also share a wish for the western Balkans to join the EU," Solym said, adding that the two countries would pursue the same policy towards the Balkans.
President Mesic thanked Hungary for its support to the opening of Croatia's EU accession talks and the help offered by Hungarian negotiators.
The economic cooperation between the two countries is improving increasingly. Making better use of the Danube as a navigation route and building the Ploce-Bosanski Samac-Osijek-Budapest highway is expected to contribute to it, Mesic said, adding that this topic was discussed at the talks as well.
Solym, who has met with Mesic three times, accepted the Croatian president's invitation to pay an official visit to Croatia next spring.
The two presidents are expected to attend the official opening of the Days of Croats in Hungary and a cultural programme organised by the Burgenland Croats living in Hungary.
