Milorad Pupovac of the Independent Democratic Serb Party (SDSS) said that they would talk "about all things important for Croatia at this moment: the completion of the (EU entry) negotiations and prerequisites for full political stability so that we can wrap up the negotiations, which also means expectations that we define a time frame for the elections".
Asked by reporters whether the time frame would be October, Pupovac said that the time frame hinged on when the accession negotiations would be over and on how much time would be needed for the campaign.
"We will do our best to see to it that the negotiations are brought to completion in June and we are going to adopt a platform today to attain that goal," the SDSS parliamentarian said.
Josip Friscic of the Croatian Peasant Party (HSS) said that today's meeting would revolve around plans to complete Croatia's EU membership talks.
As for parliamentary elections, he reiterated the position of his party that they should be held in the autumn.
Andrija Hebrang of the HDZ said that when the elections would be held depended on a number of things.
Foreign Minister Jandrokovic said that the EU accession negotiations were not in a blind alley and that they could be wrapped up by the end of June.
"We are doing all that is necessary. We have held a series of talks recently with foreign ministers and with foreign ambassadors in Zagreb," Jandrokovic said, adding that the recent statement by Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini showed that it was possible to complete the EU entry talks in June.
Asked by reporters whether fixing an election date would relax the state of affairs in Croatia, Jandrokovic said that the situation in Croatia was stable.
