The head of the centre, General Stergios Papotis of Greece, recalled that the centre was established on 27 October 2000 by the Croatian and German governments as a body assisting in the implementation of regional agreements on arms control and security. RACVIAC is today supported by 20 countries and 14 provide staff.
Some 2,800 people from different countries have contributed to the work of the centre both through military and civilian activities and the centre currently employs 38 people from 14 countries.
The centre organises seminars and workshops with participants exchanging experience important for regional security, such as remodelling military facilities to serve for civilian purposes, providing for surplus army staff, etc.
The ceremony at RACVIAC was attended by numerous Croatian and foreign officers and diplomats.
