"The investigation is under way. Police are interviewing witnesses and residents of Kistanje, but we have no concrete information yet," Sibenik Police Department spokeswoman Rosa Truta told Hina on Monday.
Truta said that the attack had been reported by the head of the Serb Orthodox monastery at Krka.
The Sibenik-based Eparchy of Dalmatia said in a statement that on Sunday "about 20 young men from Kistanje stopped a group of divinity students (...) from the Krka monastery on their way back from Kistanje and insulted them for no reason on religious and ethnic grounds."
The police spokeswoman said that the youths had reportedly shouted abuse at the divinity students threatening never to allow them again to pass through that area. She added that no physical violence had been reported.
