We welcome the latest actions by the Kosovo government and we can say that they are steps in the right direction, the head of the US Office in Pristina, Philip Goldberg, told reporters after talks between representatives of the Contact Group member states and Kosovo Premier Bajram Kosumi.
Kosumi said he had informed the Contact Group representatives of the efforts being made by his government to meet international standards and create conditions for the return of displaced minority communities, primarily the Serbs.
UN special envoy Kai Eide of Norway is on a visit to Kosovo this week. He is to submit a report on the overall situation in Kosovo to the UN Security Council in September. Should the report be positive, it might pave the way for the start of talks on Kosovo's final status.
