ZAGREB, July 28 (Hina) - About 50 members of the Independent
Croatian Volunteers (NDH) association gathered in Zagreb's central Ban Jelacic
Square on Thursday protesting against Zagreb University Chancellor Jasna Helena
Mencer's failure to apologise for her statement about the children of Croatian
soldiers being given privileged treatment in enrolling at the University of
Zagreb. Mencer recently dismissed the association's criticism about
her having insulted the children of soldiers by insisting on her statement that
the increased number of students who were allowed to enrol at the university
outside of regular enrolment quotas would affect the quality of university
education.
NDH leader Slavica Hruskar said at the protest meeting the association
demanded putting an end to attacks on the children of soldiers.
The protesters said the situation caused by the introduction of a
special enrolment quota for the children of soldiers, to which they were
entitled under the law on the rights of soldiers and their families, was yet
another attack on the Homeland War.
