Minority MPs also in favour of setting election date

Autor: mses
ZAGREB, March 11 (Hina) - After meeting Croatian President Ivo Josipovic on Friday, parliamentary representatives of ethnic minorities told reporters that they would ask senior partners in their coalition to agree with the Opposition on an election date in the coming days.

Milorad Pupovac of the independent Democratic Serb Party (SDSS) said that elections should be held before Croatia's EU entry referendum and after the completion of EU accession negotiations.

Pupovac said he had informed President Josipovic about his concerns over growing political tensions and crisis.

To put an end to this, it is necessary for the government and the Opposition to reach agreement in the next seven to ten days, said the MP of the junior partner in the ruling coalition.

Furio Radin, who represents the Italian community in Parliament, said that it as inconceivable to have the referendum before the parliamentary elections.

As for the elections, we call on the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) President Jadranka Kosor and leaders of other political parties to set a date or a time frame for for elections as soon as possible, Radin said.

The head of the regional HDSSB party, Vladimir Sisljagic, also insisted that the elections should be held before the EU entry referendum.

The HDZ and its partners in the ruling coalition have lost public trust, Sisljagic said after the talks with Josipovic.
