The conference, organised by the Croatian Justice Ministry and the European Union Delegation to Croatia, brought together reporters, publishers, media owners and officials of the judicial system.
Participants in the three-day event in Zagreb agreed that the role of the Croatian media in the anti-corruption campaign was unavoidable.
The Croatian Journalists Association (HND) was advised to set up a media council which would co-ordinate media coverage of corruption-related cases. The council would issue annual reports on the fight against corruption, lists of the biggest media scandals and assessments of the media coverage of those topics.
The conference heard that it would be recommendable to establish annual anti-corruption awards for media and reporters.
