ZAGREB, June 23 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic on
Thursday received the head of the Croatian government's office for national
minorities, Milena Klajner, and her assistant Bahrija Sejfic who informed him
of the action plan called The Decade Of The Integration of The Roma 2005-2015,
which the Croatian government adopted in March, the President's Office said in
a statement. During the talks it was said that the Roma national
minority had been marginalised and discriminated against for centuries and the
government was therefore taking a number of systematic measures aimed at
improving the living conditions for the Roma people.
President Mesic supported the action plan and the activities of the
government's office for national minorities aimed at helping the Roma national
minority to exercise its rights. The president particularly advocated the
integration of the Roma in the education system.
The talks also focused on the implementation of measures of the
national programme for the Roma which was complementary with the action plan
"The Decade Of The Integration of the Roma".
