According to the State Bureau of Statistics, Croatia's export in the January-April period totalled 2.78 billion dollars, while the import amounted to 5.74 billion dollars.
This led to the further increase in the deficit in the country's foreign trade. The deficit was up 18.5 percent in comparison to the same period 2004, climbing to 2.96 billion dollars.
The coverage of the import by the export was 48.4 percent in the first four months this year.
The deceleration of the growth of the export can be ascribed to the situation in the export of ships, analysts of the Croatian Chamber of Commerce said in the latest issue of the report on the economic trends.
The export expressed in the kuna, rose by 4.9 percent to 15.9 billion kuna.
The import, expressed in the kuna, increased by 7.7 percent to 32.8 billion kuna in the first four months of 2005 as against the same period 2004.
