"It is now evident why the HDZ did not want the direct election of local leaders, as this could have prevented that party from trading with coalition partners at the state level," Cehok told a news conference in Zagreb on Thursday.
Cehok also said he was dissatisfied to see that Prime Minister Ivo Sanader was engaged in making political deals and thus indirectly in the establishment of government at the local level.
The HSLS chief warned that this could led to great rifts in Croatian society.
Cehok said he was also dissatisfied with the conduct of HDZ representatives in Bjelovar and the fact that the head of the HDZ branch in that city, Gordan Jandrokovic, had failed to apologise to HSLS Vice President Djurdja Adlesic after he had insulted her.
"When the Osijek case happened, Sanader called me not to go with Branimir Glavas, while he refused to discuss Bjelovar," Cehok told reporters.
Asked by reporters whether the HSLS would continue to support the HDZ in parliament, Cehok said that everything would depend on the outcome of the talks.
The HSLS leadership yesterday asked for an urgent meeting with PM Sanader to discuss further communication between the HDZ and that party.
