ZAGREB, May 30 (Hina) - Nenad Ivankovic has tendered his
irrevocable resignation as president of the Independence and Progress (SIN)
party, citing a poor showing in the May 15 local elections for the Zagreb City
Assembly, the party said in a statement on Monday. The party
announced that it would be led by vice-president Aladar Metzinger until the
emergency convention.
Party leaders said that SIN should intensify its work by establishing
branches across the country because "Euro-scepticism is a legitimate European
position and is necessary in Croatia as a counterbalance to uncritical
Europhiles and as an inevitable side in debates on the advantages and
disadvantages of Croatia's membership in the European Union."
