"This will be to the benefit of all who on the basis of command responsibility have faced problems or had to answer for what they could not influence, because (now) command responsibility refers to those who ordered a crime or knew that a crime had been committed but failed to call to account (those responsible for it)," Mesic said.
He went on to say that this could be a factor leading to Gotovina appearing before the tribunal if the runaway general decided that this was what he should do. "However, I believe that this will not be decided by him, but by his advisors, who it seems have their reasons to make this (situation) last as long as possible, because it means (receiving) money as long as possible," Mesic said.
Mesic made the statements during a visit to Vidovci near the eastern town of Pozega, where he opened a waste water purification plant.
During a visit to Pozega, the president attended his 50th high-school reunion.
