According to the Interior Ministry, Buconjic notified the ambassador that the police were checking all leads and information so as to establish whether there had been any omission in the work of the local police when a police report disclosed the identity of the victim and gave a detailed description of the sexual offence, while the identity of the perpetrator was kept secret.
The police are also investigating whether some other omissions and errors were made during the preliminary probe into the case.
Buconjic also told Frank that as soon as the police completed the ongoing investigation, he would inform him of the findings.
The Croatian press on Friday reported that Frank protested against the misconduct of the police during the investigation into the Gospic rape scandal at yesterday's meeting with Croatian Justice Minister Vesna Skare Ozbolt, who said that she was also outraged by the conduct of the Gospic police.
Last week, the Gospic police arrested a local 57-year-old businessman whose initials are J.M. on suspicion of having raped a 28-year-old US basketball player on 13 April.
The basketball player reported to the police that the suspect, whom the media identified as the owner of the hotel where victim was staying, entered her room and raped her in the middle of the day.
