"We really need to find effective measures to implement the already defined policy of sustainable development with regard to water, sanitation and human settlements," Nikola Ruzinski, State Secretary at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Planning, said at the Commission's 13th session in New York.
Ruzinski said that Croatia aimed to incorporate into its policy a balance of economic resources, social sensitivity and the need to protect the environment as much a possible.
He said that one of Croatia's millennium development goals was to increase the number of connections to the public water supply system to 94% and the number of connections to the sewage system with waste water filters to 65%.
Croatia supported the statement of the European Union on sustainable development.
