Kalogjera was born on the island of Korcula in 1936. He graduated from the Zagreb Faculty of Economics.
He worked for the Ingra construction company between 1974 and 1991, during which time he was the company's representative in Cairo. After leaving Ingra in 1991, he was appointed ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, where he served until 1996.
He was a member of the Croatian Democratic Union since 1992.
