pendingcompletion of an internal investigation into possible omissions inmaintaining law and order at a match between Zagreb and PartisanBelgrade football clubs, the Ministry of the Interior said in astatement on Wednesday.
ZAGREB, March 16 (Hina) - The deputy chief of police, Dubravko
Novak, the chief of security, Zdenko Galic, and three more officers from the
Zagreb Police Department have been suspended from duty pending completion of an
internal investigation into possible omissions in maintaining law and order at
a match between Zagreb and Partisan Belgrade football clubs, the Ministry of
the Interior said in a statement on Wednesday. In an unrelated rape
case that also occurred at the weekend, the police suspended a telephone
operator, an officer on duty and his deputy at the police Operations and
Communications Centre.
An investigation is under way to establish the possible responsibility
of the three men in the case of a kidnapped and raped girl who had called the
police for help four times by mobile phone.
The suspension orders were signed by the Zagreb chief of police,
Kresimir Sulc.
