DUBROVNIK, Feb 1 (Hina) - The coastal resort of Dubrovnik will on
Wednesday begin with its traditional festivities on the occasion of the Day of
St. Blaise, or Sveti Vlaho, who is the Patron Saint of this southern Croatian
city. The central ceremony will be on Thursday.The festivities commence on 2 February, Candlemas Day, with the
releasing of white pigeons in front of the St. Blaise's Church, the symbol of
freedom and peace, and with the raising of St. Blaise's flag on Orlandos
Column. On 3 February, a procession will walk through city streets, and local
Roman Catholic dignitaries will say Mass in the cathedral.
The 1033rd fiesta of St. Vlaho ends on Sunday, 6 February.
