KOTOR, Jan 17 (Hina) - The Croatian Civic Society (HGD) based in Kotor, Montenegro, organised the signing of a petition on Monday following a decision by the Croatian government to transfer the consulate from Kotor to the capital Podgorica.

The HGD proposed that the consulate should keep an office in Kotor to make it easier for local Croats to exercise their rights. It also proposed that if Montenegro gained independence, the Croatian consulate in Podgorica should become an embassy and the Kotor office a consulate.

The organisation said it would send the signed petition and its proposals to the consulate and the Croatian government.
