Congratulating Radio 101 and Vrabec Mojzes, Mesic said he was grateful for everything they had done for freedom of the media in Croatia.
You spoke long ago about what nobody else dared to speak about, Mesic said.
Vrabec Mojzes said that the decorations were a sign of acknowledgement for all generations of reporters and editors since the early 1980's who frequently and bravely changed the media space in Croatia, preparing it for the subsequent democratic changes.
In its 22 years Radio 101 has managed to keep its urban identity and image of an undefeated, independent medium which is known outside Croatia's borders, Vrabec Mojzes said.
She stressed that Radio 101 had managed to keep its autonomy despite attempts by authoritarian regimes to impose control on it, and that its independence was also the result of support by the citizens of Zagreb.
