Croatian parliament officials meet Afghan delegation

ZAGREB, Dec 20 (Hina) - Croatian Parliament vice-president Vesna Pusic, the chairwoman of the Gender Equality Committee, Gordana Sobol, and her deputy Karmela Caparin held a working meeting in Zagreb on Wednesday with officials from the Ministry for Women's Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the Croatian Parliament said in a press release.
ZAGREB, Dec 20 (Hina) - Croatian Parliament vice-president Vesna Pusic, the chairwoman of the Gender Equality Committee, Gordana Sobol, and her deputy Karmela Caparin held a working meeting in Zagreb on Wednesday with officials from the Ministry for Women's Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the Croatian Parliament said in a press release.

They main topic discussed was the political and social aspects of gender equality.

Sobol and Caparin presented mechanisms for the institutional protection of gender equality in Croatia, and said that the main priorities of their work was combating violence against women, including women in all levels of decision making and improving women's position on the labour market.

Afghan officials spoke of changes in the education system and the health care system in their country.

Pusic informed the guests about the perception of Afghanistan in Croatia, and stressed the importance of meetings like this one for enhancing cooperation between countries. She also spoke of the participation of Croatian troops and civilians in the peace mission in Afghanistan.

Afghan officials said that the presence of international peacekeepers in Afghanistan was useful in the long process of reconstruction of the country and its institutions.
