The Banja Luka-based Nezavisne Novine daily on Tuesday published top-secret police information about preparations for Dodik's assassination, which was to have taken place during his visit to Sarajevo.
Information dated 14 December and signed by the head of the Sarajevo Canton Police Department, Himzo Selimovic, said that Dodik's assassination had been ordered by circles including representatives of Montenegro's legislative and executive authorities and some people from Russia, the main motive being money laundering which was to have been done in the Bosnian Serb entity.
The Sarajevo Canton Ministry of the Interior said that a member of the Zemun mob clan, Sretko Kalinic, was to have killed Dodik with the help of local criminals from Sarajevo. Another Zemun mobster, Vladimir Milosavljevic, "who is currently in Croatia", and Ninoslav Konstantinovic, who is hiding in the Netherlands, had been involved in the preparations, the ministry said.
The Serbian judiciary has been looking for the two men since 2003 because they are linked with the murder of Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic.
Selimovic confirmed the information, but added that it was of an operational nature and not entirely verified.
The head of the Bosnian Serb police administration, Uros Pena, said the documents were being checked, but that as far as he could see, there was no information confirming that preparations for Dodik's assassination had taken place.
The deputy head of the Agency for Investigations and Protection, Dragan Lukac, said that the information would be investigated, especially information referring to the alleged involvement of Montenegrin officials.
Dodik himself said that he had been informed about the potential threat, but that he believed that Montenegrin officials had nothing to do with plans to assassinate him.
