ZAGREB, Dec 12 (Hina) - Tax revenue today is 11.3 per cent higher than on 12 December 2005, Finance Minister Ivan Suker said on Tuesday.

There is no covered up deficit and this year's budgetary deficit will account for three per cent of Gross Domestic Product, Suker told the press.

He said this year's economic growth was expected to be 4.6 per cent and that in 2006 the government had reduced its external debt by EUR400 million. He also underlined that the State Treasury contributed to the transparency of public finance.

The minister said significant headway had been made this year in bringing the leasing registry up to date, that more than 3,000 contracts had been entered so far and that 1,600 were being updated.

Suker said he was pleased with what had been done this year in bringing order into public finance, reducing the national deficit, investing in financial market development, and preparations for European Union accession. He also recalled that 2006 was the first year in which a stand-by arrangement with the International Monetary Fund had been successfully closed.

The minister announced a number of new laws for 2007, including a law on leasing and amendments to the law on the securities market aimed at positioning the Zagreb Stock Exchange as a regional leader. He said that improving communication with the public was one of his ministry's strategic goals for 2007.
