"EFPZ application can be discussed and decided only in parliament," Friscic told the press in the eastern town of Vinkovci ahead of an HSS Main Committee meeting.
He said he was pleased that the EFPZ was finally being viewed in Croatia as a very important national issue and that it could not be the subject of speculation or of bargain on the date of Croatia's accession to the European Union.
Friscic said the HSS advocated reaching a consensus of all political parties on the EFPZ and that if this was accomplished, other issues significant for Croatia's EU entry and development could be closed in a similar fashion. He said the HSS would certainly insist that the EFPZ be activated as Croatia was entitled to it.
Asked by the press about possible coalitions ahead of next year's parliamentary elections, Friscic said the presidencies of the HSS and the Social Liberals (HSLS) would hold a session on December 15, after which the two parties were expected to determine platforms on the national level.
