The office opened in the Roma settlement called Rasadnik near the city of Mitrovica is expected to help displaced persons belonging to the said minorities to come back to homes in which they lived until 1999.
Until 1999, when NATO forces intervened to stop the atrocities which Serb forces committed against the Kosovo Albanians, almost 8,000 Roma lived in the Rasadnik settlement.
After that Roma became victims of intimidations mainly by local Kosovans. Rasadnik was razed to the ground.
Roma moved to the north of Kosovo where they live in camps in poor conditions.
