Glavas, an independent member of parliament, has been on hunger strike for nearly a month. He is detained on suspicion of war crimes against civilians committed in 1991.
Justitia Et Pax, which met yesterday, said it was concerned about the protection of the dignity of war crimes suspects. It advocated respecting every person's right to a good reputation and to be considered innocent until proven guilty, which the commission said the public, and notably the media, did not give sufficient consideration to.
The commission went on to say that parliament should finally address the issue of Sunday as a non-working day and pass a just law on this issue so that those who now work Sundays could dedicate themselves to their families.
The commission also underlined the need that Croatia be part of European integration processes, but said it must not lose its identity. It called for reaching a consensus on the fundamental values of Croatian society that need to be protected also legally so that they could contribute to the unity of the European family of peoples.
