LJUBLJANA/HELSINKI, Nov 22 (Hina) - Slovene Prime Minister Janez Jansa, who was received by his Finnish counterpart and chairman of the European Union, Matti Vanhanen, in Helsinki on Wednesday, said that the fish catch in the border area with Croatia did not represent a serious problem for Slovenia, although it was a sensitive issue.

"This is not a serious problem in our relations, although it is a sensitive issue," Jansa told the press after meeting the Finnish premier.

Jansa added that his country was not obstructing the opening of negotiations on fisheries between the European Union and Croatia and that Slovenia had always supported its neighbour in a bid to join the Union, according to the Slovene media.

During his visit to Helsinki, Jansa was accompanied by Slovene Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel, who told the press two days ago that Slovenia could not okay the opening of the Croatia-EU negotiations on fisheries unless Croatia reached agreement with the Union on the fisheries regime in the Adriatic in accordance with the Slovene-Croatian agreement on cross-border traffic and cooperation.
