ZAGREB, Nov 8 (Hina) - The contentious land on the southern island of Mljet, which the municipal authorities sold to the Zagreb-based Adria sistem company, is owned by the Republic of Croatia (hereafter the state) and the Municipality of Mljet had no right to free use of it, according to a final ruling made by the County Court in the city of Dubrovnik.

The Office of the State Prosecutor of Croatia, that earlier warned the Municipality of Mljet that it was not the owner of the said land, on Wednesday published on its web site that it had received the ruling from the Dubrovnik County Court in the lawsuit which the state had lodged against the Municipality of Mljet over the registration of the ownership over the land on the island.

According to the County Court's verdict, the state gained possession of the land in compliance with the Forestry Law and the Farmland Law.

The state is now entitled to enter its ownership over a large number of real estate units in the cadastral district of Pozura on the island of Mljet.

The Dubrovnik County Court also turned down a request by the Adria sistem company to enter its ownership in land registry books regarding real estate in the cadastral district of Korita, which the company had bought from the Municipality of Mljet.

Despite warnings which the Dubrovnik branch office of the State Prosecutor issued in August 2004, the Municipality of Mljet concluded a purchase contract with the company regulating the sale of 220,00 square metres at the price of 2.8 million euros.
