Deputies of the strongest opposition Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS) accused Croatia of flagrantly breaching the border arbitration agreement which was why they suggested that the Slovenian government should think about giving up that agreement.
"We do not want and cannot give up the arbitration agreement. The document provides for the best protection of our interests," the foreign minister said addressing the committee's session.
The Opposition deputies said Croatia kept making unilateral moves such as the recent publication of a map on Croatian fisheries with the median line identified in the Savudria Bay (Piran Bay) which Slovenian opposition politicians view as an attempt to prejudge the solution to the border dispute.
They also cited an example when the Slovenian police officers allowed their Croatian counterparts to conduct an on-site investigation into a death case in a disputed area in the Mura River valley.
They accused the Borut Pahor cabinet of being naive towards the Croatian side.
Minister Zbogar said that having sent protest notes to Croatia over unilateral moves, the Slovenian government showed in a diplomatic manner its disagreement with Croatia's behaviour.
After the dismissal of their motion, SDS deputies walked out of the session in protest.
On 21 January Croatian Ambassador to Slovenia Svjetlan Berkovic was presented with a protest note from Slovenian authorities regarding Croatia's new regulations on fishing area boundaries in the Croatian Adriatic,
The Croatian Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development previously already informed the public that the new regulations do not prejudge the border.
Later in January, the European Commission said it did not see anything disputable in Croatia's new rule book on fisheries boundaries as that document noted that it would stay in effect until the procedure for determining the border between Croatia and Slovenia was completed,
The Commission said that it was acquainted with reports on the publication of a map as a section of the new Croatian rule book and that the map contained a note that the presented boundary was provisional until the final border demarcation,
