KIEV, Sept 27 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic, who is on a visit to Kiev to a memorial ceremony marking the 65th anniversary of the Nazi massacre of 33,771 Jews at Babiy Yar, on Wednesday held separate talks with Israeli President Moshe Katsav and Ukrainian President Victor Yuschenko.

Katsav and Mesic talked about bilateral relations and the situation in the Near East.

Our meetings are always a good opportunity to exchange experience about bilateral relations, the situation in the Near East and global issues, Katsav said.

I've congratulated President Mesic on the Raoul Walnenberg award that he recently received, which is another confirmation of how much the Croatian president is committed to fighting anti-Semitism, the Israeli head of state said, adding that Mesic was one of the best friends of Israel and the Jewish people.

"We talked about concrete possibilities for economic cooperation and about investing Israeli capital in Croatia," Mesic said.

Earlier on Wednesday Mesic held talks with his Ukrainian counterpart and host, Yuschenko. The two heads of state did not address the press after the meeting. The talks focused on bilateral issues. Mesic and Yuschenko said it was important to liberalise the visa regime and use the existing possibilities to advance economic cooperation, including joint presentations on third markets.

According to announcements, the Ukrainian president is expected to officially visit Croatia by the year's end.

This year commemoration in Babiy Yar is held under the auspices of the Ukrainian president, the World Holocaust Memorial Forum and the Jerusalem-based Yad Vashem Memorial Centre. Mesic and other statesmen attending the commemoration on Wednesday laid wreaths and observed a minute of silence in tribute to the victims from Babiy Yar.

As part of the event marking this tragedy, an international forum called "Let My People Live" will be organised in Kiev. Mesic is scheduled to address the participants in the forum this afternoon.
