ZAGREB, Sept 8 (Hina) - A European Parliament representative, Doris Pack, on Friday visited the University of Zagreb's Teacher Training College to hold a lecture and discuss the forthcoming establishment of a German-Croatian centre for European education.

Pack's lecture on education and European integration was part of a summer school organised by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) as part of preparations for the establishment of the Centre for European Education by the University of Muenster and the University of Zagreb.

The summer school "Developing Quality and Education Standards in Europe - Concepts and Methods" is being held from 3 to 17 September at the Zagreb Teacher Training College.

Pack will cooperate in the project as an advisor and hold lectures on counselling and management in European education. She told reporters that people from the entire region would be able to take part in the studies, which was very important for regional cooperation.

The value of this project was recognised within the Tempus programme, which is a trans-European cooperation framework for the field of higher education and part of a common EU programme of assistance to the economic and social restructuring of Central and Eastern European countries, Pack said.

A part-time professor at the Teacher Training College, Siegfried Gehrmann, told reporters that this was the first German-Croatian centre to be based at the Zagreb Teacher Training College and the first regional centre of that kind in Europe.

A large part of the new studies, which are to start in a year's time, will be conducted via the Internet. They will consist of two-three months of lectures in Zagreb, five-six months of lectures on the Internet, and four months of lectures Germany. After the completion of the studies, their participants will be able to work as advisors on the process of European integration.
