ZAGREB, Aug 20 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic will continue to make efforts on the foreign policy front this fall, with the media already attaching special importance to his participation in a summit of the Non Aligned Movement in Cuba.

Mesic is expected to travel to Havana in mid-September and present Croatia's foreign policy platform at his talk at the summit.

Heads of state and representatives from the member nations of the Non Aligned Movement (NAM) will meet in Havana, Cuba, from September 11-16, 2006.

The occasion has added interest because of the health of Fidel Castro, currently recovering from surgery for internal bleeding. The media will be watching closely to see if Castro makes an appearance and what condition he is in. The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) consists of 114 developing countries and their goal is to represent the political, economic and cultural interests of the developing world.

After Cuba, the Croatian president will travel to the United States and attend a UN General Assembly session. During his stay in the US, Mesic will also visit Boston and give a talk at the Harvard University.

Sources close to the president say it is possible for Mesic to also visit Canada.

At the end of September, Mesic will visit Ukraine, at the invitation of his Ukrainian counterpart Victor Yuschenko. Mesic is expected to attend an international forum in Kiev to be held on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the massacre in Babin Jar, where all Jews from Kiev were executed.

Mesic and Yuschenko are scheduled to meet again in October when Yuschenko will visit Croatia.

After Kiev, Mesic will travel to Bucharest and attend a summit of Francophonic countries.

In October, mesic will officially visit Macedonia, as part of his efforts invested in the continuation of regional cooperation, and Belgrade, where he will take part in a regional conference on organised crime.

He is also scheduled to travel to Budapest to attend a ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of the uprising in Hungary.
