ZAGREB, July 21 (Hina) - Hina's newly-appointed Steering Council held an inaugural session on Friday, electing Ivan Rusan as president and Bozo Skoko as his deputy, the Council said in a statement.

The Steering Council approved the terms of office of the four newly-appointed members and concluded that it had a majority of votes to make valid decisions as required by law.

The Council asked the government to invite applications for the appointment of the fifth member of the Council from among the agency's staff as that position remained vacant.

The session was attended by Hina's Director Mirko Bolfek, Editor-in-Chief Darko Odorcic and Deputy Director Fjodor Polojac.

After the previous Council's term of office expired in June, the new Council was proposed by the government and approved by parliament for a four-year term.

Council president Ivan Rusan holds a master's degree in information sciences. He was director of the Croatian Information and Documentation Referral Agency, head of the National Office for Statistics and head of the Centre for Economic Statistics at the Zagreb Institute of Economics. Rusan was also a member of the previous Council.

Council vice-president Bozo Skoko holds a master's degree in political science and is a communication specialist. He works as an assistant lecturer in the Department of Journalism at the Zagreb Faculty of Political Sciences. He previously worked as a reporter with Croatian Television.

Council member Dijana Katica holds a master's degree in veterinary medicine and is a management and finance specialist. She chairs the managing board of the "Hrvatski farmer" (Croatian Farmer) company.

Council member Drazen Jovic holds a law degree. He works in the Zagreb City Office for Education, Culture and Sport and attends a post-graduate course at the Faculty of Law, the statement said.
