Addressing the event, the society's head, Igor Zidic, commented on some political events.
Describing Matrix Croatica as an indispensable institution of the Croatian nation, Zidic asserted that certain campaigns had been launched against Croatian institutions, including the Croatian Writers' Society (DHK) and the Croatian Academy of Arts and Sciences so as to make divisions in them.
He also pointed the finger at attempts to problematize the Croatian Homeland Defence War and the heritage of the late Croatian President Franjo Tudjman.
Zidic added that the Matrix Croatica had no ambitions about being politically active, but that this institution together with other scientific and cultural institutions wanted to work for the common weal of the Croatian people.
He went on to say that Croatia should go towards the European Union, retaining its own identity and culture. In this context he expressed his conviction that Europe is Europe which has its Christian roots. Zidic also welcomed a recent statement by Prime Minister Ivo Sanader about promoting the Christian Europe.
