Besnainou and ECJ Secretary-General Serge Cwajgenbaum, who were visiting the Jewish community in Zagreb, met Sanader to discuss the restitution of confiscated Jewish property, the fight against anti-Semitism and racism, bilateral relations between Croatia and Israel, the situation in the Middle East, and Croatia's aspirations to join the European Union.
Besnainou said they also discussed Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, his calls to wipe Israel off the map and his negation of the Holocaust.
In Croatia, a country which has suffered so much, there is a great understanding for the suffering of the Jews in the Second World War, Besnainou said, adding that there was a need for Croatia to pass appropriate laws to counter anti-Semitism.
